    Term Dates & Session Times

The St. Bernard's school day starts at 9 a.m. 9am.png Many of our young people arrive in buses bus.jpgand taxis, but some also walkwalk.jpg to school or come in cars car.jpg.  Staff teams greet students as they come in and this is also an opportunity to say hello hello.jpgand check in.

AM: Once in class, many access a morningmorning.jpg starter activity enabling them to make a positive transition into the learning space. For some, this might be a physical activity, for others it might be a task at the table. Check-ins are a really important part of the day as this establishes a readiness for learning, or if an individual might need something different. Morning learning takes place within class groups and can look different according to the group and pathway. A range of Maths activities takes place and usually starts with a fluency session so that our young people develop confidence around number and key areas. English activities can focus around communication, reading, writing, spelling and grammar in its many forms!

Class groups have a mid-morning break break time.jpg where the learning journey continues and this can be around social interaction, life skills, communication and so much more. A snack is usually followed by some outdoor activities.

Lunch lunch.jpg is from 11.45 and groups currently have lunch in their classrooms. They make a transition to the hall to make their choices and again continue to develop skills throughout this time. Every moment of the day is a learning opportunity.

PM: Afternoonafternoon.png learning time is often topic/life skills/practical based learning around different curriculum areas. Each day ends with a reading learning opportunity which can be anything from a sensory story, group reading, story time to free reading. We have a range of activities throughout the week which can include swimming, mindfulness, sports and fitness, outdoor learning.

The school day ends between 3p.m. & 3.10 p.m. 3 pm.jpg as our students make transitions home home.jpgto their bus/taxi/parents/carers.
