Physical Education

Here at St Bernard’s School, we deliver a broad and balanced Physical Education (PE) curriculum that provides pupils with access to a wide range of sports and physical activities throughout the academic year. Our offer is carefully sequenced to promote progressive skill development, teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. This wide-ranging provision ensures that pupils experience both individual and team sports. Our sport provision offers students the chance to experience traditional sports with a host of different sports from around the world. This is especially prevalent in our World Sports term where sports from all around the globe are covered, including their history. Activities are adapted to meet a range of abilities. This enables every student to access learning and make progress from their individual starting points and at a desired pace that is right for them.

At St Bernard’s, we recognise that physical activity plays a crucial role in supporting our students overall development. Participation in sport contributes not only to physical health and fitness, but also to positive mental health. Through our inclusive and varied PE curriculum, we aim to foster a positive attitude towards physical activity and equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to lead healthy, active lifestyles both now and in the future.  As part of our offer to encourage our students to take part in activities outside of school we have a sports specialist coaching company come into school to deliver Yoga and Boxercise. This is in addition to our PE curriculum and builds into our ethos of offering as much physical activity for our students.
