Our Rationale
Our enrichment afternoons are designed to enhance the curriculum in line with our school and trust values, while supporting the Five Ways to Wellbeing.
These sessions provide students with opportunities to explore new interests, develop a wide range of skills, and learn beyond the traditional classroom environment. Activities encourage creativity, physical movement, and meaningful engagement in a variety of contexts.
A key focus is the development of social and emotional skills, including communication, listening, and turn-taking. Enrichment also allows students to make progress in areas that may not be fully covered within the daily curriculum.
A Personalised Approach
Enrichment activities are tailored to each student’s age, stage, and learning pathway. Individual targets may be set based on EHCP outcomes or specific subject areas.
Some students will follow recognised frameworks, such as Forest School or Arts Award, enabling them to build skills progressively and achieve structured outcomes.
Impact and Outcomes
Our enrichment programme supports both personal and academic development. Through these experiences, we aim to foster:
Most importantly, we strive to create memorable learning experiences that have a lasting positive impact.
Organisation and Delivery
Where appropriate, targets are set and shared by class leads. Group leaders and supporting staff are responsible for tracking and evidencing progress, including within structured frameworks such as Forest School.
Enrichment takes place every Friday afternoon, with activities planned in advance. Students will have opportunities to choose from a range of options, with groups changing throughout the year to ensure variety and engagement.
We operate a half-termly cycle of activities, allowing students time to develop and refine their skills while maintaining consistency. At the same time, flexibility is built in to ensure individual needs are met.
As the programme grows, we aim to expand our offer by involving visitors and drawing on the skills and experiences within our local community.
Enrichment sessions take place on a Friday afternoon and are subject to change.
1 week dedicated to primary students.
1 week dedicated to senior students.
Primary plan:
Students will remain in their class groups and the lead of the activity will come to the class. We will roughly have 3 sessions of each activity. This will be an exposure to the activity as opposed to the full experience.
Post 16 mentors and Cedar students will be able to support the classes
